Nanaimo Veterinary Hospital

Brett Hayward, DVM, Owner/Operator

Dr. Brett Hayward received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from The University of Saskatchewan in 1983.  After that, he founded the Puntledge Veterinary Clinic in Courtenay and ran that for 12 years. At Puntledge, he not only cared for small companion animals, but also horses. After selling Puntledge, he studied cancer for about five years, which involved doing stints at the University of South Carolina and Minnesota State.

Dr. Hayward's personal work is with the homeless, many of whom struggle with mental difficulties and sometimes drug problems. He runs his own transition house with the Vancouver Island Health Authority, serves on the board of Island Crisis Care Society, which runs five shelters, and occasionally serves breakfast at the 7-10 club. For fun, he enjoys motorbiking and paragliding, travel, music, good food, books, books, books, and the occasional beer.

Dr. Hayward is with us two days a week - Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
