Lori, Veterinary Technician, RVT

Registered Veterinary Technician Lori received her Diploma from Thompson Rivers' University in 1993. She then worked at Victoria’s 24-hour emergency veterinary hospital, Central Victoria Veterinary Hospital, for eight years before returning to Nanaimo. She joined the Nanaimo Veterinary Hospital team in August of 2002, and has been the lead Technician ever since.

Lori has an idiosyncratic poly-dactyl cat named Turbo, who she adopted after he was brought to the hospital by the SPCA for orthopedic surgery.

 

 

Karen, Office Manager

Karen brought over 10 years of office and administration experience to the Nanaimo Veterinary Hospital team, which she joined in May of 2011. A lifetime animal lover, Karen began volunteering with the SPCA at age nine, and has since done volunteer work for the SPCA in every city she has lived in.

Karen has three cats: Pixie, Simon and Muntz, a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever named Archer, a kooikerhondje mix named Cypress, as well as a saltwater fish tank that is home to an assortment of marine fish and
invertebrates. Outside of her work at the Nanaimo Veterinary Hospital, Karen works as a dog trainer with Best Paw Forward Dog Training.

 

 

Lisa, Veterinary Assistant

Lisa began her veterinary support career in 1998 at Guildford Animal Hospital in Surrey. She worked at Guildford for 13 years before moving to Vancouver Island and joining the Nanaimo Veterinary Hospital team in 2013.

 

 

 

Heather, Client Care Specialist

Heather began working with animals in her early teens; her first job was as a veterinary assistant. She obtained a BSC in Animal Biology after studying in Scotland for several years. Upon returning to Canada, she participated in a research project on birds of prey at the Raptor Center in Duncan. She then spent the summer in Jasper studying the effects of open pit mining on grizzly bears. Heather worked at the SPCA and a dog daycare before joining the NVH team in January of 2014.

Heather has a sweet-natured Jack Russel Terrier named Callie and two orange tabby cats - Eddie and Maia.

 

 

 

Colleen, Client Care Specialist

Colleen graduated from Vancouver Island University (formerly Malaspina University)’s Animal Care Aide program in 1996. In the mid-2000s, Colleen left her previous career in sales behind to follow her dream of working more closely with animals. Colleen brought over five years of veterinary support experience to our team, which she joined in April of 2010.

Colleen has two terrier crosses: Louie and Pippa.
